Mathmagical Monday: Random 5 from our shelves

We have lots of children's books about math. Well, lots is a relative term.
To put it mathematically here are two equations:

Math books > Poetry books

Math books < Dragon books

And since it is actually already Tuesday morning, I will simply give you 5 math-related books I grabbed this morning. The first two will appeal to the younger ones and the rest to older kids. Check your library! Oh, and if you have any fun math books to recommend, please share!

*More M&M's Math, Barbara Barbieri McGrath
*Millions to Measure, David M. Schwartz, pictures by Steven Kellogg
*The Adventures of Penrose the Mathematical Cat, Theoni Pappas
*Mathematicians are People, Too: Stories from the Lives of Great Mathematicians, by Luetta Reimer
*Math Trek 2: A Mathematical Space Odyssey, by Ivars Peterson

Look you! I have not gotten there yet. Once I get my schedule thing down, I am planning on it. Just need the inspiration to find me!

Oh, I have a few good ones too. I'll have to search through my shelves to get the titles right first though.

Thanks dear!

We really like the Math Start books by Stuart Murphy. We found one called Among the Odds and Evens at the library booksale and the kids really enjoy that one. We also found one called Reese's pieces Count by 5. My little builder boy loves this one because of the diggers and such. Richard Scarry counting book is also really good.

We don't have many for older kids yet but Mathmaticians are people too is one that I would like to get soon. I know our library doesn't have those ones.

Thanks so much! I will have to check out the M&M book as those little candies might as well be their own food group for me (said as I pop the last dark chocolate M&M in my mouth from my nightly bowl!). I also love the Mathematicians are People Too book! I will see if our library has that one!

Blessings,
Jennefer

Lee, how do you like Mathematicans Are People Too? I have looked at this book several times but never followed through and bought it. Do you kids enjoy hearing the stories?

Thanks,
Kerri

Kerri & all -- we did enjoy Mathematicians are People, Too. Me more than the kids, though. We still reference a few of the stories. So it was definitely worth reading.

I love your blog. I love to read blogs where I can get new information on homeschooling books and things. I'll have to try the one with the M&M's...

My kids would probably have all the M&M's eaten before we even started the lesson...LOL. My son and his sugar addiction. :0)

Okay wonderful friend,
tell me math books are best for my dd7 (need solidifying in addition/subtraction), and what math books would be good for me to read, especially about teaching with strategies, not so much projects and such.

I've put a bunch of children's math literature on request from the library
