When I first heard about 888 (reading 64 books, 8 books in 8 categories in 2008), I thought it was too much. But in looking at my shelves, I have so many books that I've bought and never finished...or worse, bought and never started! A book in the hand is worth two on the shelf and so, I'm challenging myself this new year! Here are the beginnings of my lists:

These are all books on my shelves. Well, now they are in piles on the floor by my feet! I need to gather some more titles from the library...but what I have will sure keep me reading for a good while! If you have any recommendations for me or have a link to your own 888 reading list for 2008 (which, by the way, it IS!), please share!

Well, I don't really make lists (I am sure to break them). I am such a mood reader. In fact, I do a lot or don't do a lot based on mood. Guess I'm *moody*? LOL!
Ok, I will look on my own shelves and email you a list of my favorites or ones I intend to read soon as well. I'll warn you though, I read a fair bit of chick lit these days. Nothing smutty or total fluff, but nothing requiring a great deal of brain power either. My poor brain is so addled and full of holes, I just can't concentrate these days. (I said this while typing in an old granny voice, if that helps with the image)

Now that is ambitious! It does sound like a lot! I’m looking forward to what else you will place on your list! *Ü*

Go look at my (pilfered) list, maybe you'll find something. It's a combo of Semicolon's Best Fiction list, my girls' reading lists, and the Lighting Lit's we'll do for spring and fall. Oh, plus every book that gets 2 or 3 mentions on the board. I'm not picky.
And it changes daily, sometimes hourly. And now you've got me curious about 'Stop Dating the Church'.
I got an idea - add children's books as a category. There are some beautiful stories you could read or reread that you haven't visited since you were a child. And if you get "thick ones" it should count!
Happy 888 to you. Wishing you much success!

This is so ambitious for me. I love to read, but somehow never seem to find, no let's say 'make' time to read for me, for pleasure, for nobody else. I highly doubt I'll get through 64 books, I think I only read about 20 this year, but I'm working on a list right now. I'm going to at least try to read books in 8 different categories this year.
No suggestions other than for historical fiction--have you read the Prelude to Glory series? They're set in the Revolutionary War and there are about 9 of them total I think. My mom really liked them, but I'm afraid of being sucked into a series and not wanting to quit until I've read them all.

How about a classics category? That's what I tried to read this past year and again this year. Good luck!
I would highly recommend the Chronicles of Narnia for the Fantasy Fiction category. They are just wonderful and quick to read as an adult.
I really enjoyed The Power of a Praying Wife. It's a very useful tool in marriage.
